PTP, Yayasan Peneraju ink MoU to create job opportunities in logistics sector

Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera that would pave the way for the provision of training and employment opportunities in the port and logistics industry.

PTP CEO Marco Neelsen said such a strategic collaboration with institutions of higher learning and government agencies such as Yayasan Peneraju has been a part of the premier transhipment port’s initiative towards enhancing the competency level and skills of its current and future staff.

“The signing of MoU between Yayasan Peneraju and PTP marks another important milestone in the port’s commitment in attracting and developing young talents with specific skills in port terminal equipment and management.

“The partnership aims to produce a pool of well-trained young talents and highly-skilled employees in PTP and Malaysia in general,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Neelsen said the collaboration is also an example of the proactive effort from the port to continuously look for new feasible and effective approaches to empower PTP’s workforce, particularly through partnerships that support human capital development through an accelerated learning curve.

“Over the years, PTP has developed two apprenticeship programmes — the Port Operations Planning Apprentice (POPA) and Young Engineer Apprenticeship Programme (YEAP).

“This year, with the help of Yayasan Peneraju, we will commence the next batch of YEAP and POPA with a total of additional 36 candidates,” he added.

Yayasan Peneraju is an agency under the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) that focuses on strengthening capacity building towards the sustainability of Bumiputera talents.

The institution has produced more than 36,000 beneficiaries in nine years of operation, ranging from school leavers, graduates, as well as junior and senior workforce in various fields around Malaysia.

Yayasan Peneraju CEO Mohd Muzzammil Ismail said the collaboration signals the commitment between both parties, in line with the national agenda to increase the number of high-skilled young Bumiputera talents in high-impact sectors such as the port and logistics industry.

“Such cooperation is important in catalysing the growth of human capital to meet the needs of a developed country while achieving Malaysia’s aspiration to become a high-income nation by 2030, in line with the aspirations of the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030,” added Mohd Muzzammil.

The ceremony was held at the Port Briefing Room at PTP and was signed by Neelsen and Mohd Muzzammil.

The ceremony was also witnessed by PTP human capital management division head Jaizal Kamar Jalalu- din and Yayasan Peneraju director of strategy and engagement Dr Amina Josetta Kayani.

PTP is the port operator for Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia’s largest container terminal with a handling capacity of up to 10.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units annually.
