Port of Tanjung Pelepas(PTP), South-east Asia’s fastest growing transshipment hub, today received delivery of trailers catering exclusively to the operations of warehouses within the PTP Distribution park area. The 8 units of ‘cornerless’ trailers (prime mover and chassis) from Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd is the first batch of the 25 units of trailers originally scheduled to be delivered by mid June 2001. The trailers were bought at a total cost of RM1.26 million.
The trailers will be utilized specifically to cater to the movement between the terminal and the Distripark area. ‘cornerless’ trailers do not have any corners on the chassis, thus enabling faster installation of twistlock’ on the containers. The cornerless trailers are part of the port’s overall strategy towards further improving its productivity and the setting of new regional standards in port productivity. Prior to the delivery of the new batch, PTP had 6 prime movers and 27 chassis providing means of transport for the warehouses within the Distripark area.
PTP CEO, Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman in receiving these new trailers stated that “ These are essential steps towards our overall strategy to set new regional benchmarks of port productivity. These trailers are also our commitment to PTP tenants within the Distripark area.”
Current tenants within the Distripark area include Pelepas Logistics, Kenwood Logistics, Tiong Nam and Malaysian Industrial Estates (MIEL). PTP CEO Mohd Sidik added, “ These companies will be able to enjoy the advantage of faster turnaround time and overall improvements in their own service levels. We are also confident that this will lead to PTP attracting more third party logistics and warehouse operators to establish their base in the vast hinterland areas within the port.
