State-of-the-art vessel traffic system to be introduced

New Straits Times

Port of Tanjung Pelepas has prepared itself for increasing vessel traffic into PTP waters by providing for a state-of-the-art Vessel Traffic System known as the Radar Processing and Display System (RAPADS).

The Rapads agreement was signed yesterday between PTP, Puncak Teknologi and Solfrelog, a French company.

The agreement ensures that PTP will be equipped with a radar-based Vessel Traffic System (VTS) to manage and control all shipping activities with the port waters.

In a statement, PTP said with this system, PTP will provide for a highly-efficient flow of traffic entering and exiting the port.

The Rapads itself will provide a visual display of all shipping activities, provide collision avoidance and potential grounding information for all PTP traffic within the approach channel and precautionary area off Tanjung Piai.

At a recent ceremony to mark to the agreement, PTP Chief Executive Officer Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman said PTP’s new VTS system ensures a highly efficient flow of vessels.
