The port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP, a joint venture between MMC Ports and Logistics and APM Terminals) set several new records in the month of April 2025.

In overall container throughput, PTP surpassed 1.2m TEU in a calendar month for the first time, handling 1,215,751 TEU. April also saw a new weekly total record, with PTP handling 178,697 moves (298,508 TEU) in week 15.

The April volume builds on PTP’s performance in March, when it set a monthly TEU record of 1.183m TEU and a weekly record of 173,902 moves. The March records replaced new benchmarks set in February, highlighting how volume at the transhipment hub has continued to increase following the start of the Gemini Cooperation in February 2025.

Hardware and software
In productivity records, PTP recorded a new high of 15,041 container moves in a single 12-hour shift in April and an hourly move record of 1,442 moves. PTP now operates 66 STS cranes, 24 of which have a 24-row outreach. In the yard, PTP operates 172 RTGs.

On the software side, PTP has been working with Kaleris to develop a new Terminal Truck Optimisation (TT-O) module that manages scheduling and dispatching of work orders to terminal tractors. TT-O plans truck movements across multiple zones and has been credited by PTP with achieving a 13% reduction in truck cycle time.

The performances confirm the Gemini partners’ confidence in PTP as their key transhipment hub for Southeast Asia. Preparations for handling Hapag-Lloyd, one of the Gemini partners along with Maersk Line, vessels included conducting PTP’s first Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS) of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering. The first LNG vessel to be bunkered during cargo operations was the 23,660 TEU Hapag-Lloyd vessel Bangkok Express.
