Tg Pelepas chief willing to work with PSA

Shipping Times Singapore Online

(SINGAPORE) The head of Malaysia's Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) yesterday repeated his contention that he would welcome cooperation with Singapore's PSA Corporation.

Speaking on the sidelines at the Terminal Operations Conference in Kuala Lumpur, PTP chief executive Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman said the two terminal operators should work together on existing business and for new opportunities, Dow Jones Newswires reported.

'I have always said there are tremendous areas for cooperation between PTP and Singapore. We have an advantage of lower costs and an advantage of land. This is an area we can work with,' he told reporters.

'We have to think about working together and to look at new developments taking place ... combining together for competitive advantage.'

The growing Johor transhipment port is PSA's closest rival. PTP has already won over PSA's biggest customer, Maersk Sealand, and looks set to secure another big customer in Evergreen when the Taiwanese line's contract expires in August.
Mr Mohd Sidik declined to comment whether there has been further progress in its talks with Evergreen.
