Transport Ministry gets approval to open up additional industry vaccination centres

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Transport Ministry has obtained approval from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) to open additional industry vaccination centres (PPVIN).

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said presently, there were six PPVIN operating throughout the country to support the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

“The first PPVIN at Port Klang for the maritime sector and the second PPVIN at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for the aviation transport sector will benefit a total of 32,243 recipients.

“Three more facilities for the land public transport sector are also opened at Putra Heights LRT station, KL Sentral, and Cheras Selatan Rapid Bus Complex involving 6,512 rail and bus service workers from Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, MRT Corp, KTMB and ERL,” he added.

Dr Wee also added the PPVIN RedQ has also been opened on July 30 for the purpose of expediting vaccination for 2,500 AirAsia employees.

The MCA president and Ayer Hitam MP said this after visiting PPVIN at Tanjung Pelepas Port (PTP) here on Tuesday (Aug 3).

Dr Wee added the ministry has obtained approvals to open additional PPVIN for the transport sector in Johor, Penang, Pahang, Terengganu, Perak and Selangor.

“There will also be additional doses for Port Klang to expedite vaccinations for seafarers, port workers and logistics sector employees,” he added.

He stressed that this initiative was estimated to benefit more than 54,000 transport workers in the country.

He lauded the PPVIN PTP, which is the largest in the country, where it would benefit around 27,000 economic frontliners inclusive of employees, contractors, customers and other related stakeholders in the Johor industrial sector.

Dr Wee said this would ensure that all frontline workers in the maritime and logistics sector, especially in the state, were being vaccinated as soon as possible.

He added the opening of these PPVIN was part of the larger efforts to expedite the delivery of vaccines to the transport sector, which is an essential service during the movement control order and National Recovery Plan.

“This is to ensure that the movement of people and goods including the daily lives are not hindered,” he said.

Dr Wee also said the ministry remains committed to working with CITF in making Pick a success by ensuring the transport industry workers receive their vaccines as soon as possible.
