Gelang Patah: A total of 40 students from four secondary schools here participated in a three-day educational trip to International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) Gombak.

The trip, which was organised by Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), aimed at providing an opportunity for the students to explore and get a glimpse of university life.

One of the participants from SMK Tanjung Adang, Nurul Ammarah Adam, said that it was a very helpful experience for her as it encouraged her to study hard to get a place in the university.

"By joining this trip, I got to picture myself in a university and I also learned more about the courses available, the subjects, the enrolment criteria and so on.

"It is a competitive world out there and to get a university placement, I have to start preparing myself immediately," she said.

PTP chief corporate officer Azharuddin Nordin said that the educational trip was one of the company's initiatives to motivate local students to be ambitious and plan wisely for their future.

"Usually, students do not have any idea about university life until they get to see it themselves.

"We have been organising educational trips to local universities for three consecutive years and so far, about 250 students have benefited from this programme," he said.

He added that the trip enables Form Four students from SMK Gelang Patah, SMK Tanjung Adang, SMK Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar and SMK Nusa Jaya to get a clearer picture on the courses they wished to pursue after completing secondary school.

Apart from the educational trip, PTP has actively organised various education-based programmes, such as motivational talks, English communication workshops and English tuition, to provide the Gelang Patah students with support in their studies.
