THE Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) took delivery of the final two cranes for Phase 1 with the arrival of two units of Super Post Panamax quayside cranes from China last week.
The port in Johor now has 24 units of quayside cranes for its first phase, increasing the port’s capacity to 4.5 – 5 million TEUs annually.
The cranes were delivered by an all-type bulk vessel, Zheng Hua.
These two cranes, similar to the other three cranes have an outreach of 60 metres and the capacity to handle 22 boxes across a container vessel.
Apart from being equipped with twin-lift spreader, capable of handling two twenty-foot containers at one time, the cranes are equipped with an articulated gantry system, enabling the machines to negotiate curves for better manoeuvring between PTP Phase I and Phase II.
PTP chief executive officer Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman said the delivery was timely owing to the increasing volumes handled at them.
He said the cranes are also the largest in South-East Asia and it prepares PTP for the next generation of container vessels.
