US ports' representatives visit PTP

A DELEGATION from the various US ports headed by the US Embassy in Singapore's Counsellor for Commercial Affairs, Mr. Jonathan M. Bensky visited Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) yesterday.
The ports' representatives have been following closely the progress and development of PTP from the world's port and shipping industry.
Also present in the delegation were Mr. Desmond Tamaki, regional director for Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Mr. Stephen Patillo, US Asean Council representative and those from the Port of Seattle, Port of Los Angeles, State of Mississippi Asean office, Port of Tacoma, Port of Charleston and the Virginia Port Authority.
PTP's executive director Mohd Sidik Shaik Osman, who received the delegation, expressed confidence that such a wide ranging delegation from various ports would provide valuable feedback to PTP's trial operations, said PTP in a statement.
Expressing keen interest to see vessels from PTP call direct to their ports in the future, the US ports delegation were first given a briefing on PTP by Mohd Sidik who highlighted the project history and the speed at which PTP was developed.
The delegation was then taken to PTP's first two berths to observe the trial port operations. Thirty-four vessels have called at PTP since the trial operations began on October 10.
Impressed with the linear wharf design, the representatives also had a close look at the quay crane operations and the container yard. The delegation was also taken to a tour of the Port Administration building, PTP's Distripark.
