JOHOR BARU: Form Four students from schools within the Gelang Patah district will be involved in a year-long English development programme to sharpen their communication and writing skills.
The programme, which is divided into three major activities including English tutorial classes, boot camp and communication workshop, was set to enhance the usage of the English language among students.
Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) chief corporate officer Azharuddin Nordin said that the programme offered students a comprehensive fun-learning experience that would benefit them.
"Teachers selected by the Johor Baru District Education Department will be conducting the tutorial classes once a month until November while the workshop would be conducted by our (PTP) management team from June to November.
"The communication workshop will be a great way to expose the students with real-life purposes of the language at the same time improving students’ acquisition through basic communication skills,” he said.
Azaharuddin added that PTP would also work with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to coordinate a 2-days 1-night English Boot Camp in June to assist the students’ language proficiency with intensive coaching on answering techniques.
"Instead of conducting normal tutorial classes, we decided to intensify our English programme by organising the camp and workshop throughout the year.
"This is in order for the students to have better grasp and knowledge to improve their understanding of this particular subject, as well as the right technique to study English effectively" he added.
The English Development programme, which was launched recently in the Gelang Patah district, is jointly organised by PTP, UTM as well as the Johor Bahru District Education Department.
Apart from the programme, PTP has various plans in line for other education related corporate social responsibility programmes this year including UPSR and SPM motivational camps, educational trip to local universities and distribution of schooling aid.
