Port Provides English Tuition for pupils

Johor Bahru : The Port of Tanjung Pelepas ( PTP ), in collaboration with the Johor Bahru District Education Department, launched its annual English tuition programme for primary school children here recently.
 
Running till July, it involves 150 students and 13 teachers from 13 primary schools within Gelang Patah.The programme aims to help students enhance their proficiency in the English Language as well as motivate and inculcate the culture of using English as a second language.
 
‘A lot of opportunities will be available to students who can comfortably communicate in English.
 
“We hope this programme will show kids that learning English can be fun,” said PTP’S deputy chief executive officer Azlan Shahrim.
 
PTP has been organizing English tuition programmes since 2008 involving SK Tiram Duku, SK Pendas Laut, SK Morni Pok, SK Tanjung Adang, SK Tanjung Kupang, SK Sikijang, SK Kg Pulai, SK Sg Melayu, SK N usantara, SK Taman Nusa Perintis 1, SK Ladang Pendas, SK Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar and SK Gelang Patah.
 
“PTP’s initiative should be followed by other companies because organizing such programmes will help increase our students’ level of education, especially using English as their second language,” said assistant district education officer Ruzana Saat.
 
Muhammad Aisar Shah Arshad, of SK Pendas Laut, said he was happy to have been chosen as a practicipant.
 
“Attending the English tuition programme will help me prepare for the upcoming Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah examination.
 
“The techniques taught so far have been beneficial in answering past years questions.”
 
Besides English tuition classes, PTP plans to undertake other education- related corporate social responsibility programmes this year, including a motivational camp, mastering 3M programme, educational trips to local universities and distributing schooling aids.
